Find patterns from the web, magazines or other sources and see how others have personalized their own variations (many are available free). Add yourself as a designer and list your own patterns for free or for sale. Find groups that match your interest. This is my favorite online knitting/crochet site.
  • Crochet Me: an online crochet community from Interweave. They have an excellent newsletter with tips, tricks and ideas.

  • Youtube.com: has some of the best instructional videos out there; there are even videos for really weird techniques. A must for visual learners!
  • KnittingHelp.com: great for instructional videos
  • TECHknitting: an experienced knitter offers many simple tutorials on techniques to improve your skills and work from basic to more advanced.

  • Yarn Standards: sizing, symbols, yarn weights and more all standards for knitting and crochet
  • Yarndex: database of yarn and their specs, colorways and pictures. Discontinued yarns included.

  • Knitter's Review: reviews of knitting tools, yarns, supplies, software and more. One of the better shopping references.
  • MicroRevolt: free site that charts color work for you.
